SCC R4R website update – 25 August 2010

It’s good to see so many SCC members and fellow cyclists out training for the fourth annual Sydney Cycling Club Ride for a Reason, this year on Saturday 25 September 2010 in aid of Father Chris Riley’s Youth of the Streets.?

Last year was exceptionally tough with a dust storm, gale force winds, rain and hail, so this year’s 160k ride from Sydney to Bowral via Macquarie Pass can only get easier – we hope! Whatever the conditions, we know you are up to the Challenge so once again we thank you for your valuable support.

Since 2007, you’ve helped us raise a total of over $150,000 for the various Bowral Tulip Time charities, and this year our target is $50,000 for Youth of the Streets. This great cause supports homeless and drug addicted young Australians as they work to turn their lives around. For more information, visit www.youthoffthestreets.com.au

Registrations closing soon

If you haven’t already registered, please do so asap by downloading (download link), and completing the Registration Form, the Release Form and the Cycling Australia Application form, select what size jersey and optional knicks you want, and then pay the appropriate fee. If paying by EFT please include a print-out of the transaction - it makes it much easier for our volunteer Treasurer and Secretary to trace who paid what and when.

Insurance for the Ride is again being provided by Cycling Australia as a benefit of membership, so any non-members need to pay an additional $5 for the day.

Please note that ALL RIDERS MUST SIGN the Cycling Australia application form, even if you have membership. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Please post your completed and signed forms and payment (plus copy of EFT receipt if applicable) as soon as possible to: SCC Charity Ride, ?PO Box 154, ?Kensington NSW 1465. Scanned forms and EFT receipt can also be emailed to

You don’t need to be an SCC member

We've had a few enquiries as to whether you need to be a member of SCC to do the Ride for a Reason. You DO NOT need to be a member of SCC or any other cycling club, as long as you complete the above registration forms and pay the extra $5 Cycling Australia insurance fee.

Pre-race briefing and jersey pick-up – 6 pm Tuesday 31 August 2010

Our sensational 2010 Ride for a Reason jerseys and knicks are ready for pick-up. And this year we are organising a special social and briefing event at The Dolphin Hotel, 412 Crown Street, Surry Hills, so you can enjoy a drink with your fellow riders and pick up your jersey. We are hoping Father Chris Riley will also be able to join us. Watch out for our Ride for a Reason Evite with more details.

Please remember also that jerseys and knicks sizes are limited, so while we will make every effort to provide you with the size you requested, please understand if your preferred size is not available.

Return transport

We are organising return transport from Bowral for riders who would like a lift back to Sydney on Saturday afternoon. The cost is $25 per person for transport back to Centennial Park for you and your bike. Please make sure you let us know asap if you would like to take advantage of this service as places will be limited.

However, we can also highly recommend inviting your friends and family to meet you in Bowral and staying the weekend to enjoy all the festivities of the 50th Anniversary of the Tulip Time Festival.

Training rides

There has been a great roll-up for our Saturday and Sunday Bowral training rides, so please do come and join us. Most rides are divided into two bunches so we try to cater for all levels of fitness and ability. The Ride for a Reason training schedules can be on the homepage of this website.

Volunteers

Please remember we also need volunteers to do things like drive the sag wagon for each bunch - so if you know someone who would be keen to help but is unable to ride, then please email me . All help will be gratefully received.

Thanks once again for your support, and also many thanks to our sponsors Scody and Velosure.
